What it is
A number pattern follows a rule. Find the rule, then you can continue the pattern.
Why it matters
Spotting and extending patterns is early algebraic thinking; describing a rule is the first step toward writing expressions and functions.
How to do it
- Look at how each number changes to the next one.
- Work out the step: how much it adds or subtracts each time.
- Apply the same rule to find the next number.
