What it is
Division splits an amount into equal groups, or finds how many groups fit.
Why it matters
Long division without solid multiplication facts turns every step into two problems instead of one: remembering what 6 times something is, then doing the actual dividing.
How to do it
- Ask: how many times does the divisor fit into the dividend?
- Use a multiplication fact in reverse to find it.
- Anything left over is the remainder.
