What it is

Fractions, decimals, and percents are three ways to write the same amount.

Why it matters

A discount sign says 25% off, a recipe says 0.25 cups, and a fraction says 1/4 — a student who can't see these as the same number has to relearn every problem instead of recognizing one they already solved.

How to do it

  1. To make a decimal, divide the top of the fraction by the bottom.
  2. To make a percent, multiply the decimal by 100 and add a % sign.
  3. A percent is just a number out of 100.

Examples by level

  • Beginner1/2 as a % =Answer50%
  • Intermediate1/4 as a decimal =Answer0.25
  • Advanced1/16 as a decimal =Answer0.0625

Examples are generated by the same engine as the worksheets, so they're always mathematically correct. Built to avoid repeats, not reshuffle the same handful of questions.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing which direction to move the decimal for percents.
  • Not simplifying fractions after converting.
  • Forgetting that percent means 'out of 100'.

Tips

  • Multiply by 100 to go from decimal to percent.
  • Divide by 100 to go from percent to decimal.

For parents

Memorise a few key equivalences (1/2 = 0.5 = 50%, 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%) as anchors for the rest.

For teachers

Use a three-column table (fraction | decimal | percent) so the equivalence of forms is always visible.
