How to make math worksheets to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers

A practical workflow for building a math product worth paying for: pick a narrow skill, build a pack with a lesson and a correct answer key, make it look like your shop, and check it before you list it.

Terms last checked . Every quote below was read from the live terms page.

A good math product on Teachers Pay Teachers is rarely clever. It is narrow, correct, and easy to print. A buyer searching for Grade 6 order of operations wants exactly that, with an answer key they can trust, in a file that survives a school photocopier.

Making one by hand takes an evening per product. Most of that evening is writing problems, and then checking an answer key line by line. This is the workflow we suggest, whether you use Mathter or not.

1. Check that you are allowed to sell it

Before you make anything, read the licence of whatever tool or source you use. Most worksheet sites allow classroom use and forbid resale, and one names Teachers Pay Teachers specifically.

We compared three of the best-known sites, with quotes and links, in our post “Can you legally sell worksheets you generate?” on this blog. If a licence is silent on resale, silence is not permission.

2. Pick one skill, one grade

Buyers search for a skill and a grade, and often a curriculum code. “Grade 4 rounding to the nearest hundred” sells; “Grade 4 math practice” gets lost.

Choose a skill your own students struggle with. You know what the hard part is, and that knowledge is what makes the product better than the next one in the search results.

3. Build the pack in three levels

A product that covers a whole class is worth more than one sheet. The shape that works:

  • A one-page lesson: the rule, a worked example, and the mistakes to watch for.
  • Practice at three levels (easy, medium, hard), so one purchase serves the whole room.
  • A second version of the same pack, with the same skills and different numbers, for a retest or for the student who was absent.
  • Answer keys for every page, at the back.

In Mathter: pick the skill and grade, generate an easy pack, then change the difficulty and generate again. “New version” after a download gives you a fresh set of questions on the same settings. Each pack is built fresh, so the sheets in your shop are not the same PDFs already circulating in a dozen others.

4. Make it look like your shop

Buyers come back to shops whose products look consistent. Use the same sheet style and colours across a product line, and put your shop name where a buyer will see it.

On Mathter's Premium plan, your logo prints on the cover and your shop name replaces the Mathter credit on every worksheet. On the free and Standard plans, a small “Mathter.ca” credit stays in the footer, and we ask that you leave it in place.

5. Check it before you list it

A wrong answer key in a product somebody paid for is the review that ends a shop. Whatever you used to make it:

  • Work five problems yourself, from different pages, and compare against the key.
  • Print one page on a home printer, then photocopy it. Faint text and pale colours disappear first.
  • Read the lesson page as if you were a parent seeing the topic for the first time.

Mathter computes every question and answer with deterministic code, not a language model, so the key is worked out from the exact questions on that page. Spot-check it anyway. That habit protects your shop with any tool.

6. Write the listing for the person searching

Put the grade and skill first in the title, then the format: “Grade 6 Order of Operations Worksheets, 3 Levels with Answer Keys”.

In the previews, show the lesson page, one practice page at each level, and the top of an answer key. Buyers want to see that the key exists before they pay for it.

Say what is inside in plain numbers: how many pages, how many problems, which levels.

Where Mathter fits

We built Mathter, so weigh this section accordingly.

Our licence lets you sell the packs you generate. It does not let you resell access to Mathter itself. The licence is permanent for packs you have already generated: downgrading or cancelling does not take away your right to keep selling them.

The free plan lets you try it: two small packs a month, answer keys included. The lesson page and larger packs start at Standard. Premium adds your logo and shop name, the largest packs, and the most packs a month.
